In November 2014 I took that leap of faith and I became the woman that God chose me to be. I am a Mother, Author, Wife, Mentor and Educator. I honor God, myself and others by having The Write to Heal. My mission is to give women who are still afraid to speak a voice, to inspire the women that are still mentally imprisoned to finally break free. By going through my darkest moments in my life, writing has proved to be the brightest light of all.
Today I encourage you to take the leap of faith, own your story, and become the woman that God has called you to be and embrace The Write to Heal Blog. I sincerely believe in life we go through obstacles not to break us but to strengthen our purpose in us. You can change the course of your life and create a brand-new way of living if only you decide that you have The Write to Heal.
I have traveled many hard roads in my life. Life and the choices I made knocked me down more times than I can count. I decided that I’d had enough of being knocked down and I surrendered to my calling and took my healing serious by writing. I was not your typical high school scholar, although I was smart enough to be. I wasn’t a high school graduate that followed a high school sweetheart to college and they lived happily ever after. Instead I dealt with teen pregnancy, being a high school dropout, childhood molestation, low self-esteem, toxic relationships, and drugs.
By the time I was 22 years old I had six children and looking at a 20 year prison sentence. My life spiraled out of control until I reached my bottom, funny thing is my bottom had levels to it, I continue to fall even further. While serving time in prison my life changed. What was meant for my bad God turned it around for my good. It was in the confined walls of a two man cell that I begin to gain freedom. I begin to write and the next time I looked up I had three completed manuscripts. I married the love of my life, whom I met while I was in prison. It was during my time of incarceration I begin to mentor other inmates and some of the officers there. I became a role model for others as I began my journey to become mentally free.
After I was release it took me about seven years before I would get the courage to publish my writings. I set a different tone for young women today. I come from adversity in which I now use as strength to empower myself and others to dream big, have faith and pursue your dreams. I have a proven track record of overcoming obstacles such as low self-esteem, sexual abuse, promiscuity, drugs and men. Yes, men can become addictions. My goal is to help other women heal through writing and speaking authentically about their past.
So, welcome to my blog, I will continue to write and heal from my past while helping others do the same.
It's inspiring to know that women like you are not keen on giving up. I know being in prison wasn't easy, although sharing your stories with us might be even more difficult for you. Your willingness to share your journey with us has been nothing but rewarding. I do hope to read more about them and let them inspire me. Thanks for sharing that, Sakenia! I wish you all the best!
